It is done.
Well, at least the polished first draft is done. Word count: 22,497.
If you haven’t been following along: I’m in the process of writing my first book, a short how-to guide about creating a knowledge base for a customer service contact center. I spent several weeks researching and organizing, then started actually writing shortly after the new year. I finished a “shitty first draft” in early February, then finished my edits at the end of last week.
Over the weekend, I downloaded Vellum, which is a Mac-based tool that allows you to format a .docx file into a lovely e-book or print book. After spending about 45 minutes fiddling with Vellum and the formatting in the Google Docs draft, I got a decent rough idea of the layout. All told, the final version will be a few more than 100 pages. The exact final count will depend on what happens in the next phase of editing, but it’s great to have an idea about how substantial this will be in physical form. I guess I’m old fashioned that w…
